Description

Soft and fluffy baked apple fritter bites filled with warm cinnamon-spiced apples and finished with a sweet apple cider glaze that sets into a delicate crackle.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 1/2 cups finely diced apples (Honeycrisp or Gala)
  • Nonstick cooking spray
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 1/3 cup + 2 tablespoons apple cider or apple juice (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F) and grease a baking sheet with nonstick spray.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk melted butter and sugar until smooth. Add egg, vanilla, and applesauce, mixing until creamy.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  5. Fold in diced apples evenly.
  6. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions onto the baking sheet, spacing them apart.
  7. Bake for about 10 minutes until lightly golden and set.
  8. Remove from oven and switch to broil on high.
  9. Whisk powdered sugar and apple cider to make a smooth glaze.
  10. Brush glaze over warm fritters and broil for 2–4 minutes until bubbling.
  11. Remove and brush remaining glaze on top.
  12. Let rest for 15 minutes to allow glaze to set before serving.

Notes

  • Avoid overmixing to keep fritters soft and fluffy.
  • Peel apples for a smoother texture, but leaving skin is optional.
  • Add nutmeg or allspice for extra warmth.
  • Broiling helps create the signature crackly glaze.
  • Store in an airtight container to maintain moisture.
