Ingredients
- 1 bunch asparagus (350–450 g), trimmed
- 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
- 1 cup (about 100 g) shredded Gruyere cheese
- 12 slices smoked turkey or beef deli (halal)
- 1 egg, beaten
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 220°C (425°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out puff pastry sheets on a floured surface and cut each into 6 equal squares.
- Toss asparagus with olive oil, salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
- Place one slice of turkey or beef deli on each pastry square.
- Add 3–4 asparagus spears and sprinkle with Gruyere cheese.
- Fold opposite corners of the pastry over the filling and press gently to seal.
- Place bundles seam-side down on the baking sheet.
- Brush tops with beaten egg.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden brown and puffed.
- Serve warm.
Notes
- Keep puff pastry cold for best puffing results.
- Do not overfill to prevent soggy pastry.
- Substitute cheese with mozzarella, cheddar, or Emmental if desired.
- Add pesto or garlic butter for extra flavor.
- Vegetarian option: omit deli slices and add more vegetables or cheese.
