A bold and comforting casserole featuring layers of crunchy Fritos, BBQ-sauced ground beef, melted cheese, and crispy fried onions.
Ingredients
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 cup diced yellow onions
- 1 cup barbecue sauce
- 4 cups Fritos corn chips
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese blend
- 1/2 cup French’s fried onions
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F and grease a 9 x 13 inch baking dish.
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef, breaking it apart as it browns.
- Add diced onions and cook until softened and the beef is fully cooked.
- Drain excess grease and reduce heat. Stir in barbecue sauce until beef is evenly coated. Remove from heat.
- Spread Fritos evenly across the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- Spoon the barbecue beef mixture over the chips evenly.
- Sprinkle shredded cheese over the top, followed by fried onions.
- Bake for 10 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove from oven and serve hot.
Notes
- Corn chips will soften over time but the flavor remains rich and satisfying.
- You can prepare the beef mixture ahead of time for faster assembly.
- Swap cheeses or add spicy ingredients to customize the flavor.
