Description

A comforting casserole that combines the classic flavors of a cheeseburger with crispy French fries, layered with seasoned beef, creamy sauce, and melted cheddar cheese.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 bag (24 ounces) frozen shoestring French fries
  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat and cook the diced onion for about 3 minutes until softened.
  3. Add minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add ground beef and cook for 7–8 minutes, breaking it apart until browned. Drain excess fat.
  5. Season with salt, black pepper, and paprika. Stir in ketchup and mustard.
  6. In a bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup and milk until smooth.
  7. Add the soup mixture to the beef and stir well. Simmer for 2 minutes until slightly thickened.
  8. Spread the beef mixture evenly in a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  9. Sprinkle 1 cup of cheddar cheese over the beef.
  10. Arrange the frozen French fries evenly on top.
  11. Bake uncovered for 25 minutes until fries are golden and crispy.
  12. Remove from the oven and sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of cheddar cheese over the fries.
  13. Return to the oven and bake for another 5–7 minutes until the cheese melts.
  14. Let the casserole rest for about 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Bake uncovered to keep the fries crispy.
  • Different fry styles such as crinkle-cut or waffle fries can be used.
  • Add chopped pickles for a classic cheeseburger flavor twist.
  • Extra cheese blends like mozzarella or Monterey Jack create a gooier texture.
  • Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, or burger sauce for a loaded version.
