Ingredients
- 1 lb pizza dough, room temperature
- 7 mozzarella cheese sticks, cut into 5 pieces each
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 3 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh rosemary
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for dusting)
- 1 cup marinara sauce (for serving)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Lightly flour a work surface. Divide the dough in half and roll each portion into a rectangle.
- Cut dough into squares. Place one piece of cheese in the center of each square. Wrap dough around cheese, pinch to seal, and roll into balls.
- Arrange balls seam-side down on the baking sheet, close together in a loaf shape.
- Whisk egg and water, then brush over the dough balls.
- Bake for 15–20 minutes, until puffed and golden brown.
- While baking, mix melted butter with parmesan, parsley, rosemary, basil, and red pepper flakes.
- Remove bread from oven and immediately brush with herbed butter. Serve warm with marinara sauce.
Notes
- Swap mozzarella for cheddar or Monterey Jack for a different flavor.
- Add minced garlic to butter for extra savory depth.
- Assemble ahead and refrigerate until baking time.
- Seal dough tightly to prevent cheese from leaking.
