Ingredients
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 large egg yolk
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 1/8 teaspoon salt

- 1 tablespoon water (for sauce)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, cornstarch, and salt for the pudding.
- Slowly whisk in the milk until smooth, then add the egg yolk and whisk well.
- Place over medium heat and cook, whisking constantly, for 8–10 minutes until thickened and gently bubbling.
- Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Divide the pudding into serving bowls and set aside.
- For the vanilla sauce, combine milk, sugar, and butter in a small saucepan over medium heat.
- Stir until butter melts and sugar dissolves.
- Mix cornstarch with water in a small bowl to form a slurry, then pour into the saucepan.
- Cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
- Spoon warm vanilla sauce over the pudding just before serving.

- Use whole milk for best texture and flavor.
- Constant whisking prevents lumps and ensures smoothness.
- Strain pudding if lumps form.
