Description
This country apple fritter bread is a moist, cinnamon-spiced loaf layered with tender apples and a swirl of brown sugar. Topped with a light glaze, it’s the perfect cozy treat for fall or anytime you crave a warm, fruity dessert.
Ingredients
- 2 peeled and diced apples
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar (to toss apples)
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 3/4 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/3 cup light brown sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
- 1–2 tbsp milk (for glaze)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
- Toss diced apples with 2 tbsp granulated sugar and set aside.
- Cream butter and remaining 2/3 cup sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and baking powder. Gradually mix into the butter mixture, alternating with milk.
- In another bowl, combine brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Spread half the batter in the loaf pan. Top with half of the apples and half the cinnamon-sugar, then swirl lightly with a knife.
- Repeat with remaining batter, apples, and cinnamon-sugar. Swirl again.
- Bake for 55–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then drizzle with glaze made from powdered sugar and milk.
Notes
- Use Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Gala apples for best results.
- Try adding chopped walnuts or pecans for crunch.
- Skip the glaze for a less sweet version—still delicious!
- To make in an 8×8-inch pan, reduce baking time by 5–10 minutes.
