Description

This country apple fritter bread is a moist, cinnamon-spiced loaf layered with tender apples and a swirl of brown sugar. Topped with a light glaze, it’s the perfect cozy treat for fall or anytime you crave a warm, fruity dessert.

Ingredients

  • 2 peeled and diced apples
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar (to toss apples)
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 12 tbsp milk (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  2. Toss diced apples with 2 tbsp granulated sugar and set aside.
  3. Cream butter and remaining 2/3 cup sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and baking powder. Gradually mix into the butter mixture, alternating with milk.
  5. In another bowl, combine brown sugar and cinnamon.
  6. Spread half the batter in the loaf pan. Top with half of the apples and half the cinnamon-sugar, then swirl lightly with a knife.
  7. Repeat with remaining batter, apples, and cinnamon-sugar. Swirl again.
  8. Bake for 55–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then drizzle with glaze made from powdered sugar and milk.

Notes

  • Use Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Gala apples for best results.
  • Try adding chopped walnuts or pecans for crunch.
  • Skip the glaze for a less sweet version—still delicious!
  • To make in an 8×8-inch pan, reduce baking time by 5–10 minutes.
