Ingredients
- 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon almond extract (optional)
- Red and pink gel food coloring
- Optional Icing:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 tablespoons milk
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- Sprinkles for decoration (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar for 2–3 minutes until fluffy. Add egg, vanilla, and almond extract and mix until well combined.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Divide the dough into three portions. Leave one plain, tint one pink, and one red using gel food coloring.
- Gently knead the doughs together for a marbled effect—do not overmix. Wrap and chill for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Roll chilled dough to ¼-inch thickness and cut into shapes. Transfer to baking sheets.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes or until edges are set. Cool on wire racks.
- Optional: For icing, whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Drizzle or dip cookies and decorate with sprinkles.
