Description
A beautifully rustic, freeform Easy Apple Galette featuring thinly sliced, warmly spiced apples wrapped in a golden, flaky pastry crust—simple to make, visually striking, and perfect for holidays or cozy weekends.
Ingredients
Pie crust (homemade or store-bought, half of a full pie dough recipe)
Fresh apples (about 1 pound, thinly sliced; 3 large or 6 small)
Light brown sugar
All-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
Ground cinnamon
Ground nutmeg
Salt
Egg (whisked with a little water for egg wash)
Coarse sugar for sprinkling
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Slice apples into thin ¼-inch pieces; toss with brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt.
- Let pie dough rest at room temperature for 10 minutes, then roll out into a 12-inch circle on a lightly floured surface.
- Transfer dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet; sprinkle a little flour in the center to prevent sogginess.
- Arrange apple slices neatly in the center, leaving a 2–3 inch border.
- Fold the outer edges of dough over the filling, pleating crust to create a rustic shape.
- Brush crust with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sugar.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes until crust is golden and apples are tender.
- Cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Swap one apple for a pear or add berries like blueberries and raspberries for variety.
- Drizzle with caramel sauce or vanilla glaze for an indulgent touch.
- Add chopped nuts like pecans or almonds for extra crunch.
- Enhance flavor with a splash of vanilla extract or lemon zest in the filling.
