Crispy golden fried cheese bites with a crunchy coating and a gooey mozzarella center, perfect as a quick snack or appetizer.
Ingredients
- 10 oz mozzarella string cheese (about 10 sticks)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup Italian-style bread crumbs
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Cut each mozzarella stick into bite-sized pieces (1 to 2 inches long).
- Prepare three bowls: one with flour, one with whisked eggs and milk, and one with breadcrumbs mixed with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- Dip each cheese piece into flour, then egg mixture, then breadcrumb mixture.
- Repeat egg and breadcrumb coating for a thicker crust.
- Place coated pieces on a tray and freeze for at least 30 minutes.
- Heat oil to 175°C (350°F) in a deep pan.
- Fry cheese bites in batches for 1–2 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove and drain on paper towels.
- Serve immediately while hot.
Notes
- Freezing is essential to prevent cheese from melting too quickly.
- Use neutral oils like vegetable or sunflower oil.
- Air fry option: cook at 200°C (400°F) for 6–8 minutes.
- Add spices like paprika or chili flakes for extra flavor.
- Best served immediately for maximum crispiness.
