Description

This easy homemade tiramisu is a classic Italian dessert layered with coffee-soaked ladyfingers, rich mascarpone cream, and fluffy whipped topping, all dusted with cocoa powder. It’s creamy, comforting, and perfect for make-ahead entertaining.

Ingredients

  • 6 large egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pound mascarpone cheese, at room temperature
  • 1/4 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • 2 (3 oz) packages ladyfinger cookies
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, whisk egg yolks and sugar until pale. Stir in milk and cook over medium heat, whisking constantly, until it gently boils. Cook 1 more minute, remove from heat, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 1 hour.
  2. Whip heavy cream and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form. Set aside.
  3. Whisk mascarpone into the cooled custard until smooth.
  4. Quickly dip ladyfingers into the brewed coffee and arrange half in a 7×11-inch dish.
  5. Spread half the mascarpone mixture over ladyfingers, followed by half the whipped cream. Repeat layers.
  6. Dust the top with cocoa powder.
  7. Cover and refrigerate for at least 6 hours or overnight before serving.

Notes

  • Use decaf coffee for a kid-friendly version.
  • Add cocoa to the coffee for a mocha flavor.
  • Sprinkle chocolate chips or fresh berries between layers for variation.
  • Slice and freeze leftovers individually for longer storage.
  • Chill overnight for best flavor and texture.
