Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Vegetable oil for frying
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg with milk and vanilla extract.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and whisk until a smooth, slightly thick batter forms. Let rest for 5 minutes.
- Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep saucepan or skillet to 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully drop small spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil in batches, avoiding overcrowding.
- Fry each batch for 1 to 2 minutes per side, turning occasionally, until golden brown and puffed.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
- While still warm, dust generously with powdered sugar and serve.
Notes
- Best enjoyed fresh for ideal texture and flavor.
- Use a thermometer to maintain oil temperature while frying.
- Dust with cinnamon sugar for added spice.
- Serve with dipping sauces like chocolate, caramel, or fruit compote.
