Description

Honey Garlic Chicken is a quick and flavorful dish where tender chicken thighs are pan-seared and coated in a sticky, savory-sweet garlic sauce. It’s perfect served over rice for a fast and satisfying meal that comes together in just 20 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 8 boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 2 tbsp cornflour (cornstarch)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 110 g (≈ 1/3 cup) honey
  • 80 ml (≈ 1/3 cup) chicken stock
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp light soy sauce
  • To Serve:
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
  • ½ tsp chili flakes
  • Boiled rice

Instructions

  1. Place chicken thighs in a bowl. Add cornflour, salt, and pepper. Toss until evenly coated.
  2. Heat oil in a large frying pan over high heat. Add chicken and cook for 4–5 minutes on one side until golden, then flip and cook another 2 minutes.
  3. Add butter and let it melt. Stir in minced garlic, reducing heat to medium to avoid burning.
  4. In a bowl, mix honey, chicken stock, rice vinegar, and soy sauce to make the sauce.
  5. Pour sauce into the pan. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Cook 4–5 minutes until the sauce thickens and chicken is fully cooked.
  6. Sprinkle with chopped parsley and chili flakes. Serve hot over rice with extra sauce spooned on top.

Notes

  • Use tamari for a gluten-free version and ensure stock and vinegar are also gluten-free.
  • Substitute rice vinegar with apple cider vinegar and a pinch of sugar if needed.
  • Dark soy sauce can be used (reduce amount slightly).
  • Reheat leftovers in a covered baking dish at 350°F (180°C) for 12–15 minutes.
  • Freeze cooled leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight before reheating.
