Ingredients
- For the carne asada:
- 2 lbs flank steak or skirt steak
- 1/4 cup fresh lime juice
- 1/4 cup fresh orange juice
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- For the tacos:
- Small corn tortillas
- Chopped white onion
- Fresh cilantro, chopped
- Lime wedges
- Optional salsa or hot sauce
Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together lime juice, orange juice, garlic, olive oil, cumin, chili powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Place steak in a bowl or zip-top bag and pour in the marinade. Coat well and marinate for 1 to 4 hours.
- Preheat a grill or grill pan over high heat. Remove steak from marinade and grill for 4–6 minutes per side, depending on thickness.
- Let steak rest for 5 minutes, then slice thinly against the grain.
- Warm tortillas on the grill or in a skillet.
- Assemble tacos with carne asada, onion, cilantro, and lime juice. Add salsa or hot sauce if desired.
Notes
- Use skirt steak for the most tender results, or try ribeye for extra richness.
- Add avocado or guacamole for a creamy variation.
- Slicing the steak against the grain is key to a tender bite.
- Marinating longer enhances flavor but avoid over-marinating beyond 8 hours to prevent mushy texture.
