Description

Orange bars are bright citrus dessert squares with a buttery crust and a smooth, sweet-tart orange filling, baked until soft and sliceable for a refreshing homemade treat.

Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup fresh orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons orange zest
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine 2.5 cups flour, 1 cup sugar, and softened butter. Mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Press the mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan to form the crust.
  4. Bake the crust for 15–20 minutes until lightly golden around the edges, then remove from the oven and let it cool slightly.
  5. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and 2 cups sugar until smooth.
  6. Gradually add 0.5 cup flour and whisk until no lumps remain.
  7. Stir in the orange juice, orange zest, and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth.
  8. Pour the orange filling evenly over the slightly cooled crust.
  9. Bake for 30–35 minutes or until the filling is set and lightly golden.
  10. Allow the bars to cool completely before slicing into squares and serving.

Notes

  • Fresh orange juice provides the best citrus flavor.
  • Allow the bars to cool fully before cutting for clean slices.
  • Dust with powdered sugar for a simple decorative finish.
  • Line the pan with parchment paper for easier removal.
  • Bars can be served chilled or at room temperature.
