Description

Golden, buttery, and pillowy soft, Parker House Rolls are a classic pull-apart dinner roll with a signature folded shape. Perfectly tender and delicious, they’re ideal for holidays, casual dinners, or anytime you crave comforting homemade bread.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole milk, warmed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 tablespoons butter (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease or line a large baking sheet.
  2. In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  3. Stir in melted butter, egg, and salt.
  4. Gradually add flour, mixing until a sticky dough forms.
  5. Knead on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes (or use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 5–6 minutes) until smooth and elastic.
  6. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour until doubled.
  7. Punch down dough and roll to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut into circles and fold each in half lightly. Place seam-side down on baking sheet.
  8. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Brush rolls with melted butter and bake for 15–18 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Brush again with melted butter immediately after baking and serve warm.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, mix herbs, cheese, or garlic into the dough.
  • Dough can be made ahead and refrigerated after the first rise.
  • Make sweet variations with cinnamon sugar and glaze.
  • Swap half of the flour for whole wheat for a heartier roll.
  • Freeze leftover rolls and reheat when needed.
