Description
Golden, buttery, and pillowy soft, Parker House Rolls are a classic pull-apart dinner roll with a signature folded shape. Perfectly tender and delicious, they’re ideal for holidays, casual dinners, or anytime you crave comforting homemade bread.
Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole milk, warmed
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 3 tablespoons butter (for brushing)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease or line a large baking sheet.
- In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Stir in melted butter, egg, and salt.
- Gradually add flour, mixing until a sticky dough forms.
- Knead on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes (or use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 5–6 minutes) until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour until doubled.
- Punch down dough and roll to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut into circles and fold each in half lightly. Place seam-side down on baking sheet.
- Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Brush rolls with melted butter and bake for 15–18 minutes until golden brown.
- Brush again with melted butter immediately after baking and serve warm.
Notes
- For extra flavor, mix herbs, cheese, or garlic into the dough.
- Dough can be made ahead and refrigerated after the first rise.
- Make sweet variations with cinnamon sugar and glaze.
- Swap half of the flour for whole wheat for a heartier roll.
- Freeze leftover rolls and reheat when needed.
