Description

A hearty and cheesy twist on the classic Philly cheesesteak, served on crispy French bread with tender steak, sautéed vegetables, and melted cheese.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf French bread, halved lengthwise
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 lb thinly sliced steak (ribeye or sirloin)
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 small green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded provolone cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F) and prepare a baking tray.
  2. Place halved bread on tray, cut side up.
  3. Heat olive oil in a skillet and cook steak for 3–4 minutes until browned. Season and set aside.
  4. In the same pan, melt butter and sauté onions and peppers for 4–5 minutes.
  5. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  6. Return steak to pan and mix with vegetables.
  7. Spread mayonnaise on bread if desired.
  8. Top bread with steak mixture evenly.
  9. Sprinkle mozzarella and provolone cheese over the top.
  10. Bake for 10–15 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  11. Optional: Broil for 1–2 minutes for a golden finish.
  12. Slice and serve warm.

Notes

  • Freeze steak briefly before slicing for thinner cuts.
  • Toast bread slightly before topping to prevent sogginess.
  • Add mushrooms or jalapeños for variation.
  • Use different cheeses like cheddar or Monterey Jack if preferred.
  • Best served fresh and hot for optimal texture.
