Description

A hearty pizza-inspired casserole layered with seasoned meat, rich tomato sauce, melted cheese, and topped with crispy golden tater tots for a comforting and family-friendly meal.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 halal beef sausages, casings removed
  • 1 medium sweet onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups pizza sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup sliced black olives
  • 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1/2 cup diced bell peppers
  • 1 bag (about 32 oz) frozen tater tots

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F) and lightly grease a large baking dish.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and halal sausage until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add chopped onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened. Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  4. Add pizza sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. Spread meat mixture evenly into the baking dish.
  6. Sprinkle half of the mozzarella cheese over the meat layer.
  7. Add olives, mushrooms, and bell peppers evenly.
  8. Top with remaining mozzarella cheese.
  9. Arrange frozen tater tots in a single layer over the top.
  10. Bake for 30–35 minutes until tater tots are golden and crispy.
  11. Let cool slightly before serving.
