Description

Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • Butter, for greasing the dish

Instructions

  1. Generously butter an 8×8-inch baking dish and set aside.
  2. In a large microwave-safe bowl, combine granulated sugar, brown sugar, corn syrup, sweetened condensed milk, and butter.
  3. Microwave on high for 90 seconds, remove carefully, and stir well.
  4. Continue microwaving in 90-second intervals, stirring each time, until the mixture reaches 250°F on a candy thermometer (about 8–10 minutes total).
  5. Pour the hot caramel into the prepared dish immediately.
  6. Allow caramels to cool completely at room temperature until fully set.
  7. Cut into small squares and serve.

Notes

  • Add a pinch of sea salt after pouring for a slightly salted caramel.
  • Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract before pouring for a richer flavor.
