Description

A hearty savory pie filled with seasoned ground beef, onions, garlic, and melted cheddar and mozzarella cheese, all baked inside a golden flaky crust. This comforting dish is perfect for family dinners or cozy gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 sheet pie crust (bottom)
  • 1 sheet pie crust (top)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened.
  3. Add minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add ground beef and cook while breaking it apart until fully browned, about 6–8 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.
  5. Stir in salt, black pepper, paprika, oregano, tomato paste, and tomato sauce. Simmer for 3–4 minutes until slightly thickened.
  6. Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool for about 5 minutes. Stir in cheddar and mozzarella cheese.
  7. Place the bottom pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish and press gently into the sides.
  8. Spoon the beef and cheese mixture evenly into the crust.
  9. Cover with the top pie crust. Seal and crimp the edges and cut small slits in the top.
  10. Brush the top crust with the beaten egg.
  11. Bake for 30–35 minutes until the crust is golden brown.
  12. Allow the pie to rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Allow the filling to cool slightly before adding it to the crust to prevent sogginess.
  • Store-bought pie crust works well and saves preparation time.
  • Additional vegetables such as mushrooms or bell peppers can be added to the filling.
  • For a richer flavor, mix in a small amount of grated parmesan cheese.
  • Let the pie rest before slicing so the filling sets properly.
