Description
Festive shamrock-shaped appetizers made with flaky pie dough or puff pastry, topped with Parmesan cheese and fresh parsley, then baked until golden and crisp.
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon all-purpose flour, for dusting the work surface
- 1 sheet store-bought pie dough or puff pastry, thawed but cold
- 1 egg white or 2 tablespoons milk, for brushing
- ⅓ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- 3 tablespoons fresh Italian parsley, finely chopped
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Lightly dust a clean work surface with the all-purpose flour to prevent sticking.
- Unroll the thawed pie dough or puff pastry onto the floured surface and gently smooth it with a rolling pin if needed.
- Use a shamrock-shaped cookie cutter to cut about 12 shapes from the dough.
- Place the shapes on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between them.
- Lightly brush the tops with egg white or milk using a pastry brush.
- In a small bowl, mix the grated Parmesan cheese and finely chopped parsley.
- Sprinkle the cheese and parsley mixture evenly over each shamrock shape.
- Bake for 7 to 9 minutes until the pastries puff slightly and turn golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- Use freshly grated Parmesan for the best flavor and melting quality.
- Puff pastry will create a lighter and flakier texture compared to pie dough.
- Lightly flour the cookie cutter to prevent the dough from sticking.
- You can add garlic powder or chili flakes for additional flavor.
- These appetizers are best served warm and fresh from the oven.
