Description
Cowboy Butter, also known as Steak Sauce Dip, is a zesty, herby, and slightly spicy butter-based sauce made with lemon, Dijon mustard, garlic, and fresh parsley. It’s quick, versatile, and perfect for steaks, seafood, veggies, or bread.
Ingredients
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
Zest of 1 lemon
2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
1 tsp garlic powder (or 1 clove fresh garlic, minced)
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
1 tbsp Dijon mustard
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)
2 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
Pinch of cayenne pepper
Instructions
- Allow butter to soften at room temperature (or microwave briefly until soft but not melted).
- In a bowl, combine softened butter, lemon zest, lemon juice, garlic powder, red pepper flakes, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce (if using), and chopped parsley.
- Season with salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
- Mix well until fully blended and smooth.
- Serve immediately as a dip, spread, or drizzle, or refrigerate for later use.
Notes
- Swap parsley with cilantro, chives, or tarragon for different herbal notes.
- Add extra cayenne or swap red pepper flakes for more heat.
- For a stronger garlic flavor, use fresh minced garlic instead of garlic powder.
- Substitute lemon with lime for a citrus twist.
- Make it vegan by using plant-based butter.
