Description

Cowboy Butter, also known as Steak Sauce Dip, is a zesty, herby, and slightly spicy butter-based sauce made with lemon, Dijon mustard, garlic, and fresh parsley. It’s quick, versatile, and perfect for steaks, seafood, veggies, or bread.


Ingredients

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened

Zest of 1 lemon

2 tbsp fresh lemon juice

1 tsp garlic powder (or 1 clove fresh garlic, minced)

1/2 tsp red pepper flakes

1 tbsp Dijon mustard

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)

2 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp black pepper

Pinch of cayenne pepper


Instructions

  1. Allow butter to soften at room temperature (or microwave briefly until soft but not melted).
  2. In a bowl, combine softened butter, lemon zest, lemon juice, garlic powder, red pepper flakes, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce (if using), and chopped parsley.
  3. Season with salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
  4. Mix well until fully blended and smooth.
  5. Serve immediately as a dip, spread, or drizzle, or refrigerate for later use.

Notes

  • Swap parsley with cilantro, chives, or tarragon for different herbal notes.
  • Add extra cayenne or swap red pepper flakes for more heat.
  • For a stronger garlic flavor, use fresh minced garlic instead of garlic powder.
  • Substitute lemon with lime for a citrus twist.
