Ingredients
- 1 sheet store-bought puff pastry, thawed
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup strawberry preserves or strawberry pie filling
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon water
- Powdered sugar for dusting or a simple glaze (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the puff pastry slightly and cut into 4 x 4 inch squares.
- In a bowl, mix cream cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Add a spoonful of cream cheese mixture to the center of each pastry square, followed by a spoonful of strawberry filling.
- Cut two small slits at the top of each square and fold the edges over the filling to form a heart shape.
- Whisk the egg with water and brush the pastry edges for a golden finish.
- Bake for 15–18 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
- Let cool slightly and optionally dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with glaze.
