Description

Rich and moist bite-sized Texas sheet cake squares topped with a smooth chocolate frosting. These mini chocolate treats capture the classic flavor of Texas sheet cake in a fun, portable dessert perfect for parties and gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 8 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup + 4 tablespoons salted sweet cream butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 3 1/3 cups powdered sugar
  • 6 tablespoons whole milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line or grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the buttermilk and butter and heat until the butter melts.
  4. Gradually add the hot mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until smooth.
  5. Mix in the eggs and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  7. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. While the cake bakes, prepare the frosting by heating powdered sugar and milk in a saucepan over low heat until smooth and slightly thickened.
  9. Allow the cake to cool for 10–15 minutes, then cut into bite-sized squares.
  10. Spread or drizzle the frosting over the cake bites and allow it to set before serving.

Notes

  • Allow the cake to cool slightly before cutting to keep the bites neat.
  • Add chopped pecans or walnuts for a traditional Texas sheet cake flavor.
  • Chocolate chips or white chocolate chips can be mixed into the batter for extra richness.
  • Decorate with sprinkles for a festive presentation.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to 1 week.
  • Freeze unfrosted cake bites for up to 2 months and thaw before frosting.
