Description
Soft and fluffy cinnamon rolls soaked in a rich tres leches milk mixture and topped with creamy frosting. This indulgent dessert blends the warm spice of classic cinnamon rolls with the moist sweetness of traditional tres leches cake.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 large egg
- 3/4 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (for filling)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
- 1 cup evaporated milk
- 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream (for frosting)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round or square baking dish.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
- In a separate bowl, combine egg, milk, and melted butter. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and stir until a soft dough forms.
- Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and roll into a 9×12-inch rectangle.
- Spread softened butter over dough. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle evenly over the surface.
- Roll dough tightly into a log and slice into 9 equal rolls.
- Place rolls in prepared baking dish and bake for 20–25 minutes until lightly golden.
- Whisk together evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, and heavy cream while rolls bake.
- Cool rolls for 5 minutes, poke holes on top, and slowly pour tres leches mixture evenly over warm rolls. Let soak at least 20 minutes.
- Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Add powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and heavy cream. Beat until creamy.
- Spread frosting over soaked rolls before serving.
Notes
- Pour the tres leches mixture gradually to prevent sogginess.
- Refrigerate leftovers due to the milk soak.
- Freeze baked, unsoaked rolls only; add milk mixture after thawing.
- Do not overmix the dough to keep rolls soft and tender.
- Soaking for up to 1 hour enhances moisture and flavor.
