Description
A quick and elegant berry topping combining sweet, tangy vinegar glaze with warm spices for a rich, aromatic flavor.
Ingredients
- 2 cups mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
- 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar or apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 pinch salt
Instructions
- Wash and prepare the berries, slicing strawberries if needed.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine vinegar and honey and warm gently.
- Add cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and salt, stirring well.
- Bring to a light simmer, then add the berries.
- Reduce heat and simmer for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Allow berries to soften and release juices, forming a glaze.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
- Let cool slightly; glaze will thicken as it cools.
- Serve warm or chilled.
Notes
- Adjust sweetness by adding more or less honey.
- Cook longer for a thicker, jam-like consistency.
- Add citrus zest for extra brightness.
- Works well with frozen berries (cook slightly longer).
- Add a splash of water when reheating if too thick.
