Description

A quick and elegant berry topping combining sweet, tangy vinegar glaze with warm spices for a rich, aromatic flavor.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt

Instructions

  1. Wash and prepare the berries, slicing strawberries if needed.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine vinegar and honey and warm gently.
  3. Add cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and salt, stirring well.
  4. Bring to a light simmer, then add the berries.
  5. Reduce heat and simmer for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Allow berries to soften and release juices, forming a glaze.
  7. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  8. Let cool slightly; glaze will thicken as it cools.
  9. Serve warm or chilled.

Notes

  • Adjust sweetness by adding more or less honey.
  • Cook longer for a thicker, jam-like consistency.
  • Add citrus zest for extra brightness.
  • Works well with frozen berries (cook slightly longer).
  • Add a splash of water when reheating if too thick.
