Description

Crispy homemade chalupas filled with seasoned ground beef and topped with fresh vegetables and creamy toppings, delivering a bold and satisfying Tex-Mex style meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Add olive oil and warm water, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  2. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rest for 20 minutes.
  3. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart.
  4. Drain excess fat if needed, then add taco seasoning and water. Simmer for about 5 minutes until thickened. Set aside.
  5. Divide dough into 6 portions and roll each into a thin circle about 6 inches wide.
  6. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat. Fry each dough circle for 1–2 minutes per side until golden and puffed, gently folding to form a pocket shape.
  7. Remove and drain on paper towels. Repeat with remaining dough.
  8. Fill each chalupa shell with seasoned beef.
  9. Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, cheddar cheese, and sour cream.
  10. Serve immediately while warm and crispy.

Notes

  • Use lean ground beef to reduce excess grease.
  • You can substitute beef with ground chicken, turkey, or beans for variation.
  • Cook dough on a skillet instead of frying for a lighter version.
  • Add toppings like jalapeños, salsa, or guacamole for extra flavor.
  • Store shells and filling separately to maintain crispness.
  • Reheat shells in the oven to restore texture.
