Description

These Easy French Dip Sliders are loaded with tender roast beef, gooey melted provolone cheese, caramelized onions, and buttery sweet rolls. Served with savory au jus for dipping, they are the perfect comfort food for parties, quick dinners, or game day gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 teaspoons fresh thyme, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 12 sweet rolls
  • 10 slices provolone cheese
  • 14 ounces sliced deli roast beef
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons dried onion soup mix
  • 1 packet au jus gravy mix
  • 3 cups water
  • Fresh chopped parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Melt 3 tablespoons butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook for 12–15 minutes until soft and caramelized.
  2. Stir in thyme, salt, and black pepper, then remove from heat.
  3. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Slice the sweet rolls horizontally while keeping them connected.
  5. Place the bottom half of the rolls into an 11×7-inch baking dish.
  6. Layer half of the provolone cheese over the rolls, followed by the roast beef, caramelized onions, and remaining provolone cheese.
  7. Place the top half of the rolls over the filling.
  8. Mix melted butter and dried onion soup mix in a small bowl. Brush evenly over the tops of the rolls.
  9. Cover loosely with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil and bake for another 5 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Prepare the au jus gravy mix according to package directions using 3 cups of water.
  12. Garnish with parsley if desired and serve warm with au jus for dipping.

Notes

  • Hawaiian sweet rolls work especially well because of their soft texture and slight sweetness.
  • Caramelizing the onions slowly adds deeper flavor to the sliders.
  • Swiss, mozzarella, or white cheddar can be substituted for provolone cheese.
  • For crispier rolls, bake uncovered a few extra minutes.
  • Leftover roast beef or shredded pot roast can be used instead of deli roast beef.
  • These sliders can be assembled ahead of time and baked later.
  • Store leftovers refrigerated and reheat in the oven for best texture.
