Description

Soft and fluffy golden buns filled with a rich, gooey chocolate hazelnut center, perfect for a sweet breakfast or indulgent snack.

Ingredients

  • 1.8 teaspoons dry yeast
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup caster sugar
  • 3/4 cup milk, lukewarm
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 3 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup chocolate hazelnut spread
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for egg wash)
  • 2 tablespoons icing sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix flour, yeast, sugar, and egg. Gradually add lukewarm milk and mix into a dough.
  2. Add softened butter and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Cover and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1.5 to 2 hours until doubled.
  4. Scoop small portions of chocolate hazelnut spread onto a tray and freeze for about 1 hour.
  5. Punch down the dough and roll it out to about 1 inch thickness. Cut into circles.
  6. Place frozen chocolate portions in the center, fold and seal tightly into balls.
  7. Arrange on a baking tray, cover, and let rise for 20–30 minutes.
  8. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Mix egg yolk with milk and brush over buns.
  9. Bake for 18–20 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Cool slightly, dust with icing sugar, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Freezing the filling helps prevent leaks during baking.
  • Ensure milk is lukewarm to activate yeast properly.
  • Seal dough tightly to keep filling inside.
  • Best enjoyed fresh and warm for gooey center.
  • Can be reheated briefly to restore softness.
