Ingredients
- 500 g ground beef
- 50 g breadcrumbs
- 60 ml milk
- 1 egg
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 60 ml ketchup
- 200 g elbow macaroni, cooked
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 480 ml whole milk
- 200 g shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and ketchup.
- Mix gently and press evenly into the baking dish.
- Bake for 15 minutes to set the meatloaf.
- Meanwhile, melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
- Stir in flour and cook for 1–2 minutes.
- Gradually whisk in milk and cook until thickened.
- Remove from heat and stir in cheddar cheese until smooth.
- Add mustard powder if using and season with salt and pepper.
- Fold cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce.
- Spread mac and cheese over the partially baked meatloaf.
- Top with extra cheese if desired.
- Bake for another 20–25 minutes until bubbly and golden.
- Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
