Description

Soft and fluffy twisted donuts with a golden crispy exterior, lightly sweet and perfect for breakfast or a homemade treat.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups plain flour (250 g)
  • 1/2 cup warm milk (120 ml)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Oil for frying
  • Extra sugar for coating

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix warm milk and sugar, then sprinkle yeast on top. Let sit 5–10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.
  3. Add yeast mixture, egg, and butter to the flour and mix into a soft dough.
  4. Knead on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down dough and divide into equal portions.
  7. Roll each portion into a rope, twist into shape, and seal ends.
  8. Place on a lined tray, cover, and rest for 20–30 minutes.
  9. Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat.
  10. Fry donuts for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  11. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  12. Roll warm donuts in sugar and serve.

Notes

  • Ensure milk is warm, not hot, to activate yeast properly.
  • Maintain proper oil temperature to avoid greasy donuts.
  • Add cinnamon or vanilla to the dough for extra flavor.
  • Coat with cinnamon sugar or glaze for variation.
  • Fill with jam, chocolate, or custard if desired.
  • Store at room temperature for up to 2 days.
  • Reheat gently to restore softness.
