Ingredients
- 2 cups plain flour (250 g)
- 1/2 cup warm milk (120 ml)
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 1 egg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Oil for frying
- Extra sugar for coating
Instructions
- In a small bowl, mix warm milk and sugar, then sprinkle yeast on top. Let sit 5–10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.
- Add yeast mixture, egg, and butter to the flour and mix into a soft dough.
- Knead on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch down dough and divide into equal portions.
- Roll each portion into a rope, twist into shape, and seal ends.
- Place on a lined tray, cover, and rest for 20–30 minutes.
- Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat.
- Fry donuts for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.
- Remove and drain on paper towels.
- Roll warm donuts in sugar and serve.

- Ensure milk is warm, not hot, to activate yeast properly.
- Maintain proper oil temperature to avoid greasy donuts.
- Add cinnamon or vanilla to the dough for extra flavor.
- Coat with cinnamon sugar or glaze for variation.
